A kaleidoscopic collection of reflections, snapshots, devotionals, artworks, musings, and more by Albuquerque-based artist Grace Rosario Perkins. Part diary, scrapbook, and self-portrait, Solid Ground traverses everything from family photographs to bad graffiti in an effort to summon and reflect inspiration from across the artist’s life. The book further chronicles Perkins’ recent exhibitions at Cushion Works (San Francisco) and MOCA Tucson, and includes an interview with the artist and fellow travelers Lonnie Holley, Fox Maxy, and Eric-Paul Riege. A vivid and contemporary account of indigeneity that scrambles culturally traditional expectations, Solid Ground is published in a standard edition plus a small number of special editions with silk-screened, hand-painted covers.
